Honju
Honju are the largest and most powerful kaiju, generally having a Fortitude Level of 6.0 or higher. They often command smaller kaiju called yoju. Defeating a honju requires a full platoon of the Anti-Kaiju Defense Force because of their big danger. In the first episode, Miho, Kafka’s childhood friend, battles a honju attacking Yokohama.
Yoju
Yoju are smaller than honju but still much larger than humans. They usually accompany honju, assisting them in their destructive efforts. Yoju are often seen following honju, as shown in the first episode when Kafka and Reno Ichikawa face one while cleaning up after a defeated honju. Yoju can also act as parasites on honju or be created by them.
Daikaiju
Daikaiju translates to “big kaiju,” but their size isn’t the defining feature. Instead, their Fortitude Level, which exceeds 8.0, marks their classification. Daikaiju are the most powerful kaiju, often assigned numbers for distinction. Kafka himself becomes a daikaiju, known as “Kaiju No. 8,” with a Fortitude Level of 9.8.
